Frequently asked questions about virion.dot

Where do I start if I need brand-protection help for .PAY for an event ticketing business?

If your brand accepts payments, registering the exact .PAY label can be a practical defensive step. Use domain.pay to check and start the priority or pre-order path: https://domain.pay/register. Also keep trademark monitoring and security controls in place.

Why does virion.dot have special eligibility requirements?

Because .PAY is positioned for payment and financial services, the registry behind virion.dot may set eligibility and validation expectations that ordinary TLDs do not. This helps keep the namespace aligned with trusted financial use. domain.pay can walk you through what typically applies at https://domain.pay/register.

When does the .PAY LRP1 period begin for a bank or credit union?

ICANN currently lists .PAY Limited Registration Period 1 from July 20, 2026 to February 1, 2027. LRP1 has payment-transaction eligibility and use restrictions. Check your domain path through domain.pay: https://domain.pay/register.

What trust signal does virion.dot send compared to a free subdomain?

A dedicated virion.dot on a payment-purpose TLD signals an official, controlled payment property, while a free subdomain looks generic and easier to fake. Customers paying NicNames gain confidence from the clear virion.dot name. Establish it at https://domain.pay/register.

Before choosing tap.pay, do I need an SMD file to register .PAY during the priority window?

An SMD file is the TMCH-issued credential used to prove a validated mark during Sunrise. For .PAY, bring your SMD or use domain.pay’s full fast-track if you need help obtaining one: https://domain.pay/register. The SMD must match the requested label.

Availability is checked live and re-verified before payment. Pre-orders are first-day registration attempts — registration is not guaranteed; 100% credit toward another domain (or 80% cash refund) if unsuccessful.
