Frequently asked questions about petroleum.dot

Can a trademark owner register a matching .PAY domain now for point-of-sale payments?

Trademark owners can register matching .PAY names during the priority/Sunrise path if they meet TMCH/SMD and identical-match rules. Start at domain.pay: https://domain.pay/register. If you are not a trademark holder, use the pre-order path for broader access instead.

Which path is faster for securing petroleum.dot, pre-order or trademark priority?

Trademark priority lets a TMCH SMD holder claim petroleum.dot during the registry's earliest window, generally ahead of a standard $100 pre-order, which submits at general availability. Speed depends on Amazon Registry Services' phases, not domain.pay. Choose the right path for petroleum.dot at https://domain.pay/register.

For loan repayments, could a .PAY domain be suspended for not being used for payments?

Yes. The LRP policy says .PAY LRP names must be used in connection with payment-related services, and failure to demonstrate such use may lead to suspension or cancellation. Check the current path at domain.pay: https://domain.pay/register.

What TTL should I set for records on petroleum.dot?

A TTL of 3600 seconds (one hour) is a reasonable default for stable records on petroleum.dot, balancing fast updates against resolver load. Lower it to 300 before a planned migration of petroleum.dot, then raise it again once things are stable. Very low TTLs increase query volume slightly.

What happens to my money if the .PAY registration attempt fails for online checkout?

domain.pay states that if a registration attempt is unsuccessful, you receive 100% credit toward another domain or may request an 80% cash refund. Review the live refund wording before ordering: https://domain.pay/pricing. Premium, reserved, blocked or already-registered names can still prevent success.

Availability is checked live and re-verified before payment. Pre-orders are first-day registration attempts — registration is not guaranteed; 100% credit toward another domain (or 80% cash refund) if unsuccessful.
